Sorry Kiki

The recent social media hullabaloo about the lady with the white Peugeout that went berserk after she was hit from the behind by an elderly man in Kuantan was quite an interesting social media subject.

I think its an interesting situation which was greatly exacerbated by the timing that it happened and the people involved.

One : Dearth of online conversation from lack of other major issues. The greatest event that is watched by the most people on earth have just finished and there is a vacuum of online conversation after the World Cup Finals. It is the Ramadhan month and not many wanted to say much in Facebook/Twitter. There was no real social, political or business issues being talked about. Even a suicide fall in one of Kuala Lumpur most posh enclave, Bangsar Village, did not make into the top social conversation hierarchy.

 Two :

The stark contrast of social identities between the two main protagonists.

From http://duniacacamarba.blogspot.com/2014/07/warga-emas-maafkan-gadis-mengamuk.html

One is a young Malay Muslim tudung wearing lady.
The other, is an elderly Catholic man.

Fresh from the heat of the "Allah" name on going court case and national controversy , with the UiTM "How to treat the non Muslims" seminar which somehow made quarters involving staunch Muslims, hardcore liberals, stout Christians and even non religious people angry, Malaysia is suffering from theistic heat. Everyone had someone to hate, some belief to belittle.

Then, this came along. It was a social media opportunity. Liberal versus hijabsters, born again versus lefties.

The virality of this issue is that it even has its own after viral party. Her address were tracked and pictures of her house were shared widely. When Kiki was invited by certain radio stations for interviews, many were angry that she was made a celebrity, which by and large, says many, was undeserving for someone that lost anger and nearly hurt a man with a yellow-red steel handle lock.

Interesting thing happens in Malaysia. Its never boring here.
