Broga Hill - Quickie Hike

This is my fifth time climbing Broga Hill. My first time, it was tiring but I arrived early and got some good time watching the sky and the scattered stars all over. I used the Sky Map app to trace on the stars and  the constellations and it was a wonderful time that I had. I failed at my third time because I didn't sleep the night before and thought I can still do it but I didn't want to risk coming down tired.

Climbing Broga Hill is not a tough mission. You don't need much preparations for the hike. If you are going to see the sunrise at Broga Hill, you would need to start off early and arrive at the base by 5am in the morning. The hike is around 1 hour 20 minutes (with 2 stops of 15 minutes each) from the base to the top which can be achieved at a normal walking speed.

We were not satisfied having the second spot as the group in front had a better viewing spot.
Reasons why an early hike is good for Broga :

  1.  You can see the beautiful night sky around Broga. Yes, one of the best views to see the stars and heaven is from Broga hill and I spent many a time just staring at the sky above.
  2. It is colder and you won't feel as tired compared to when hiking in the scorching heat of the sun in daytime.
  3. There will be so many people when the morning comes and it will be take more time as you have to queue up and wait for people to go through as most part of the trail have space only for one person to go through. And believe me, there can be so many people from different segments of society that can turn you off from the natural beauty of the place.
  4. If you want to view and take photos of the sunrise or even the sky, you will have to be early to get a good space and this should be achieved by 6.30. By 6.30 am, most good spots are already taken.
  5. Going up in the darkness of the early morning can be easier as you don't see much and thus your sight is limited and you don't waste much time watching the environment around. It is always better to enjoy the sights when going down. Also, if you have fear of heights, it can be challenging.
  6. If you are going as a couple, it is definitely more romantic being in the dark, accompanied by slow music. Nothing like good sights and views to profess your love.
  7. If you come early, you will miss the "toll"that charges RM 2 per person because the two persons "guarding"it will start charging from 9am or so onwards.

Going down can be challenging if you have fear of heights. I do.

You don't need much to bring or prepare for a Broga climb.

The most important item would be good shoes with strong soles that doesn't slip. You will need a good headlamp or flashlight to help light up the dark. Flashlights are sold at the entrance to the base so you can really make a last minute decision to go up. The location of the base is here (Broga Hill park). There is parking and you will be charged RM 1 per person to enter.

There are a few trails to go up and technically, you can create your own trail if you want to. I try to follow the lights of the people to guide me at front. Well, at most places the trail is quite clear but in the darkness it can be a little bit tricky.

See how many people there? This is at 7.15am and it is already full of people.

My legs, not being so macho at times.

Life sucks at times. In fact, it sucks most of the time. In fact, it can suck all you have and throw it all into an abyss of depression, sadness and suicidal thoughts. It can really throw you off your course and you will want it to change to become better that you hold on to anything that can take you away from the suckiness of life so that for that  limited period of time you can find some peace. Well, you’re going to keep being fat unless you change the way you eat, just like your life is going to keep sucking unless you change the way you live. So, for me, I climbed a hill today. And for now, that will do.

OMG OMG, Look! The smoke from the jet trail crosses the straight cirrus fibratus radiatus to make a V sign

We build fortresses of people, habits and possessions around us that make us feel as though we’re in control because we sought them out and we built them. So it comes as a terribly shock to us when all of these people, possessions, habits and “right” decisions gradually – or all of a sudden – perish, leaving us barren and exposed.

The illusory walls of safety in our lives are created by the inner child to form a second womb. There is nothing wrong with forming comforting wombs in our lives, but the problems arise when we attach to them, want them to always be there for us, and expect that they will permanently “protect” us from the world. It’s the inner adult within us who realizes that in order to truly feel free, we must accept the inevitability of unpredictability. We must live our lives as free spirits, finding a home within ourselves first and foremost.

This couple stopped making out as soon as I whipped out my phone to take their pic. Kidding! LoL!

View at dawn. Trust me, it is 1000x times better seen with the naked eye.
