Breaking Fast With Ayu and Cicy In Kuala Lumpur
Ayu Oktavani who hails from Medan, from a Palembang mother and a Balinese father, will also spend this Ramadhan in Kuala Lumpur. She and her elder sister Cicy, had lived in Malaysia for several years now but they still recall fondly of Indonesia’s traditional dishes. “I miss having empek empek Palembang, a fishcake delicacy and Pisang Rai, a traditional snack from Bali. These 2 were my favourite, each from a parent’s hometown”, quotes Ayu.
This Ramadhan is made more special for Ayu and her Malaysian husband of 3 years, as their 3-month princess, Sophea is making her debut. She met her husband at the college where she enrolled for an accountancy course. Her first job after graduating was at Fitness First, as an Accounts Assistant and now that she had moved to another organisation for a bigger role, she wants to organise a session of ‘buka puasa’ for her ex colleagues.
The get together was held at a Dolly Dim Sum, a modern version of the traditional Chinese tea house, specialising in dim sum and dumplings of various kinds. Not surprising, her favourite dish at the restaurant is the one with fish cake, of which she is glad to share with her daughter, continuing the family tradition.
