Salam Maulidur Rasul -The Concept of Oneness

These are just some thoughts that came up on me after a reading session of the Quran today as well as the culmination of experience from intense Quran reading lessons since the age of 4. Or 5 . I don't really remember.

If one reads the Quran, thinks deeply of the meaning and the arrangement of surahs and ayats, it is quite apparent that the Quran was designed in such a way that the content presents itself to the reader, as if speaking to the reader in a story telling format, making it as if it is guide for individuals. Well, it is. This led me to the idea that the Quran is meant to be individual-based rather than system-oriented.

By that, I mean that the actual target of the holy book is to change the thinking of the individual. Any person that can feel, will feel its intended message from their own individual perpective. Thus why every translation of the Quran will generally have differences (in acceptable degrees) between them.

Changing the system is not the Quran’s direct objective. For the system is subservient to the individual and not the individual to the system. That is why the utmost emphasis is placed on inculcating the right thinking in man. Yet, it is not the method of the Quran to set out everything in advance, in detail. It rather encourages individuals to think for themselves along the proper lines, so that they may discover for themselves the great truths of life. In educational terminology this is called the discovery method.

For example, praying may not change things much but it changes the person so the whole outlook of that person changes and from there, his/her whole world changes.

Islamic teachings can be summed up under two basic headings: believing in One God, worshipping Him alone; and regarding all human beings as equal and according equal rights to all. That's basically it.

An example of this oneness is that each of us has one body. Yet, our bodies are composed of many parts. Each organ, cell and tissue has a different function, and all these parts play an integral part of the whole. The various components of each body are no more important than the others.

On this realm, we can see that every person has the same physical composition — one head, one brain, one heart, one set of lungs, one stomach, one liver, two eyes, one nose, one set of lips, etc. We all have the availability of all these bodily parts.

I would argue that "being" is evident and beyond meaningful debate. I would also argue that we have and use a model of multiplicity that is consistent with our experiences and has practical application. However, our experience, logic and mathematics drive us toward the conclusion of that "oneness" and therefore mystery are a necessity of the human condition.

A feeling of 'oneness' is thought to be the common thread between different religions and is also linked to better overall happiness

Muslims believe more strongly in 'oneness' than those of any other religion -trumps Christians, Buddhists and yogis - and are more satisfied with their lives for it, says a Study from GermanThe mathematical model the researchers devised confirmed a strong link between oneness and life satisfaction.

This. clearly indicate that the causal direction of the association between oneness beliefs and life satisfaction is in line with the assumptions derived from the literature:

oneness beliefs are a significant determinant of life satisfaction over time, whereas there is no reversed effect of life satisfaction on oneness beliefs

The short version of my argument is as follows:

(1) there is being

(2) there is only being (no non-being)

(3) if there is only being there is oneness

(4) if there is oneness there is mystery because human knowledge requires multiplicity

In brief, monotheism and justice for all.
